Areca Palm Plant (XL)

₹1,799.00

Indoor plants are foliage plants that live on the filtered light inside a home — and the light your room actually gets, not the plant you like the look of, decides which ones survive. This range covers 74 houseplants, from Snake Plant and Golden Money Plant for genuinely dim corners to Areca Palm and Monstera for a bright window. Every one is propagated and raised at our own nurseries, so what reaches you is nursery stock we have grown, not a marketplace listing bought in from a third party.

Grown at our own nurseries in Rishra, Hooghly and Joka, Kolkata  ·  Dispatched in 1–2 working days  ·  Cash on delivery on serviceable PIN codes  ·  Free shipping above ₹499 in West Bengal and above ₹999 across the rest of India

Below those thresholds the charge is calculated at checkout from your PIN code, because some addresses are cheaper for the courier to reach than others.

How much light does your room actually get?

Stand where the pot will sit at eleven in the morning and try to read a newspaper. If you can read it comfortably without switching on a lamp, most houseplants will grow there. If you reach for the lamp, you are in low light — and only a short list will hold.

Bright indirect — within a metre or two of an unshaded window

This is the widest choice. Monstera Deliciosa splits its leaves properly here, Areca Palm fills a corner, and Bird of Paradise, Ficus Bonsai and variegated Aralia all hold their colour. One caution: bright is not the same as direct. Midday sun through glass in April and May will burn most of them, and a thin curtain solves it.

Moderate — three or four metres in, or beside a balcony-shaded window

The comfortable middle for most Indian flats. Peace Lily, Aglaonema Pink Beauty, Aglaonema Red, Pink Syngonium, Peperomia and Peacock Plant all grow steadily in this band and keep their markings.

Genuinely dim — inner rooms, stairwells, corridors with borrowed light

A short list, and an honest one. Snake Plant, Golden Money Plant, Money Plant N'Joy, Lucky Bamboo and the Brazilian Wood Plant will all live here, but they will grow slowly rather than not at all. Nothing survives a room with no window whatsoever; a plant in a space like that needs rotating out to daylight every fortnight, or a grow bulb overhead.

Getting the light wrong rarely kills a plant outright — it stretches it. Long bare gaps between leaves, stems leaning hard toward the window, and small pale new growth all mean the same thing. The quickest warning of all comes from the variegated Money Plant: cream marbling is the first thing a plant gives up when light runs short, so if the new leaves come through plain green, move it closer to the window.

Pet-safety follows the ASPCA non-toxic list. Non-toxic is not the same as edible — a cat that chews any of these can still get an upset stomach. The full picture, including the popular plants that are not safe, sits on our Pet-Friendly Plants page.

Which plant for which room

The room changes the constraint far more than the décor does, so it is worth starting from where the pot will actually stand.

Living room — scale is the decision. One floor-standing Areca Palm anchoring a corner reads better than six small pots spread across the shelves.

Bedroom — quiet foliage that copes with an air conditioner running all night. Keep pots out of the direct airflow; the blast dries leaf edges faster than anything else in the room.

Bathroom — the humidity genuinely helps, but only where there is a window or a working vent. A windowless bathroom will not hold a plant, however steamy it gets.

Office and desk — fluorescent light, air conditioning and nobody there from Friday evening to Monday. Lucky Bamboo and Money Plant grown in water answer all three at once.

Low-light zone — stairwells, inner rooms and north-facing corridors, where the choice narrows to the hardy few listed above.

Caring for houseplants through the Indian year

Watering is a seasonal habit, not a weekly one. The same pot can want a drink twice a week in May and once a fortnight in January, and most indoor plants that die in Indian homes die because the routine never changed.

Monsoon, June to September

In the eastern belt where we grow, indoor air stays damp for weeks together and pots barely dry between waterings. Cut back sharply and push a finger an inch into the soil before every can. Root rot takes far more houseplants here than forgetfulness ever does. Raise pots onto feet or a pebble tray so nothing stands in collected water, and leave a little space between crowded shelves for air to move.

The hot dry months, March to May

Crisp brown leaf edges in this season are almost always dry air rather than thirst. Grouping three pots close together lifts the humidity around them and does more than misting, which evaporates within minutes. Pull plants back from any window catching afternoon sun — glass concentrates it, and Peace Lily and Aglaonema scorch quickly.

Winter, December to January

Growth slows, roots drink much less, and the schedule that worked in May will drown a plant now. Stretch the interval between waterings and stop feeding altogether until February, when new growth restarts.

One honest caveat: this calendar is written from humid eastern India, where we grow. If you are in Delhi, Jaipur or Ahmedabad the dry season runs longer and harder — you will water more often, fight brown tips for more of the year, and worry far less about monsoon rot.

Buying for an office, café or project

Bulk orders are handled outside the website cart, because pricing and lead time both depend on what is ready at the nursery. Four routes:

  • Volume of a single species — fifty Snake Plants for an office floor, for instance
  • Mixed supply for an interior fit-out, matched to the light in each zone
  • Corporate and event gifting, with pots finished and labelled
  • Trade supply for landscapers, interior firms and resellers

Send your requirement — species, quantity, pot size, delivery city and date — to support@plantaeroot.com or WhatsApp +91 98747 58056, and we will send back a rate card with a realistic lead time. Because we grow the stock ourselves, availability at volume follows the growing season rather than a supplier's warehouse. Buying in and around the city? See our Kolkata nursery page.

Frequently asked questions

Which indoor plant is the easiest to keep alive?

Snake Plant. It handles dim corners, tolerates a missed fortnight and asks for very little. The usual cause of death is watering on a fixed schedule instead of when the soil has actually dried out.

How often should I water indoor plants?

Water when the top inch of soil is dry, not on a fixed day of the week. In practice that comes to roughly twice a week in May, once every ten to fourteen days in winter, and considerably less through the rains.

Do indoor plants need direct sunlight?

No — almost none of them want it. This foliage evolved under a forest canopy and does best in bright indirect light. Direct afternoon sun through window glass will scorch Peace Lily, Aglaonema and Peacock Plant within a few days.

Which indoor plants are safe for cats and dogs?

Areca Palm, Bamboo Palm, Peperomia, Boston Compacta and Peacock Plant appear on the ASPCA non-toxic list. Snake Plant, Money Plant, Peace Lily, Monstera, Jade and Lucky Bamboo do not — six of the most popular houseplants in the country, all of which cause irritation if chewed. The pet-friendly range is filtered for households with a cat that samples the furniture.

Why are my plant's leaf tips turning brown?

Dry air, most of the time, rather than thirst — which is why it appears in the hot months and in rooms cooled overnight. Grouping pots together helps more than a spray bottle. Hard tap water and over-feeding produce the same symptom less often, so rule out humidity first.

Will a live plant survive the courier journey?

Yes, in normal transit. Plants leave the nursery with the soil secured and the pot braced, are dispatched within one to two working days, and usually arrive in two to seven. Some leaf drop or yellowing on arrival is normal and recoverable: unbox the same day, water lightly, and give the plant a week in indirect light before judging it.

How long will delivery take to my PIN code?

Two to seven business days, depending on distance from our Bengal nurseries. Shipping is free above ₹499 within West Bengal and above ₹999 elsewhere in India; below those amounts the charge is worked out at checkout from your PIN code. Cash on delivery is available on serviceable codes. Check your own city on the delivery locations page.
